Important Information

How can I get my login information if I do not know it?
Click here to log in to your online acccount.. To view your tax form, you will need your School Code, Account Number (SSN) and PIN/Password to access your account.
Click here to retrieve your login credentials. Enter all the information requested. Your login credentials will appear after you click submit. **Please note that the zip code entered must match the one on file that the school sent ECSI.**

What if the SSN on my tax form is incorrect?
To correct your Social Security Number ("SSN") on your tax form, you must fill out Form W-9S. Click here to download Form W-9S. Please include your School Code and School name on the top of the form to help expedite your request. Please note that your SSN cannot be corrected without a W-9S form on file. After completing the form, you can submit it to ECSI using the following methods:

  • Fax the form to: 1.844.365.8101.
  • Mail the form to: P.O. Box 1278, Wexford, PA 15090.

Please be sure to include your email address on the form. By providing your email address, ECSI will be able to notify you via email that your new form is available. You will also receive a new login for your website account.

Change Dispute
Disputing amount reported on 1098T please send email to cservice@ecsi.net with the following information:

  • Student Name as reported to school
  • Telephone number
  • Current email
  • Student ID number
  • What is being disputed
  • Attach copy of student account records supporting disputed amount

What if the amounts on my tax form are incorrect?
  • If Box 7 is checked the student's 1098-T is for all qualified tuition charges or payments received or made for the beginning of next year's reporting period (January through March).
  • Box 1 and Box 2 do not and should not include amounts for courses where no course credit is issued or any courses involving sports, games and hobbies. The only exception to this is if the course(s) are part of the student’s degree program or were taken to improve a job skill.
  • Box 1 and Box 2 do not include: room, board, insurance, medical expenses (including student health fees), transportation or personal expenses incurred while attending college.
  • You will not receive a 1098-T in the following cases:
    • Courses for which no academic credit was offered even if you are enrolled in a degree program
    • You are a nonresident alien and did not request that your school provide you with a 1098-T
    • Your tuition was paid in full by scholarships and/or grants
    • Your tuition was paid by an agreement between your school and an employer or by the government like the Department of Veteran’s Affairs or the Department of Defense

If after reading the above-mentioned information the student disputes the amount reported on the 1098-T please send an email communication with the following information to cservice@ecsi.net:

  • Name of the school the student attended.
  • Student's name as reported to the school.
  • Telephone number where the student can be reached.
  • Last 4 digits of the student's social security number.
  • Amount disputed and attached report showing amounts billed or paid for the reporting period.

Please allow up to 5 to 7 business days for Heartland ECSI to respond to your email request. Email communications without the above mentioned information cannot be resolved by Heartland ECSI and as a result, the student will have to contact the student account office at their school for further assistance.

Overview of Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997

The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA97) introduced several tax incentives on qualifying student loans. The Hope and Lifetime Learning credits provide the ability to take a tax credit for qualifying educational expense. TRA also provides a deduction for the interest paid on qualifying student loans. The Student Loan Interest Deduction is reported on an IRS Form 1098E. The Hope, Lifetime Learning, and American Opportunity Credits are reported on an IRS Form 1098T.
